Unit 1 Quiz 8/17
Make sure you turn in the Syllabus by Friday 8/17
Well, we are now over the hump for our first week. Today in class we discussed the reliability of information and the types of information that we will be utilizing throughout the year. Remember, all of these skills will be on your "test" as you progress through GHS and get into the real world. I hope everyone has a great rest of your night and I will see y'all tomorrow! **Announcements** Unit 1 Quiz 8/17 Make sure you turn in the Syllabus by Friday 8/17

We are 2 days into the school year and I hope that everyone else is as excited as I am about what is in store for us. In class today we introduced a topic, the growth mindset, that will be important not just for the rest of the year in this class, but it has the potential to transform how you deal with challenges in every other aspect of life. I hope everyone has a great night and I will look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow when we will dive into some more growth mindset. **Announcements** Turn in your questionnaires/syllabus TOMORROW Unit 1 Quiz 8/17 Welcome back to GHS everyone! I hope that everyone had a great day back. I certainly enjoyed meeting all of you and I am looking forward to a great year together in this class. Today we went over the course syllabus and what to expect over the next 179 days that we have together. I know that getting re-adjusted to the school schedule can be tough so make sure that you are getting plenty of rest this week to help you adjust to being back on a more structured schedule. I will see everyone back bright and early tomorrow at GHS! **Announcements** Turn in your questionnaires TOMORROW Unit 1 Quiz Friday 8/17 Welcome to my 2018-2019 World History Honors class. I enjoyed meeting everyone today and I look forward getting to know more about you tomorrow through our class icebreaker. My hope is that you left my class excited about what lays ahead for our trip together through US history. Remember, this is the landing place for any course resources that you may need or you can also go to the Google Drive for this class. Make sure you get some rest tonight and I look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow as we dive right into the material and talk about the Black Legend! Today, we wrapped up our study of the growth mindset and prepared for our first exam on Monday. Remember, make sure that you spend some time preparing to perform on this exam. Failure to prepare is preparing you to fail! See everyone tomorrow morning. Let me know if you have any questions! **REMINDER** Unit 1 Resources (Title Page/Vocabulary) due TOMORROW Today we finally got into some of our history content here in World History. We started our discussion of early humans and what the world looked like for them. We also discussed how the change of starting to grow plants was huge and transformed human history forever. I look forward to seeing everyone back tomorrow as we start to discuss what all civilizations have in common. **REMINDER** Unit 1 Resources (Title Page/Vocabulary) due MONDAY 8/29 We had another great day here at GHS in World History. As we wrap up classroom policy discussions as well as setting our mindset for the year, we discussed that the one supply that we do need for the school year is ganas. Ganas is what Jaime Escalante described as desire. Without a desire to succeed in this class or in anything else, you will not live up to your potential. Or, as Ralph Waldo Emerson put it, "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." We then finished the course with watching the final moments of Stand & Deliver to see just exactly what is possible when students and their teacher have the ganas to succeed. Well, I hope that everyone has a great night and I look forward to seeing you back tomorrow when we will start to get into some actual world history! After a great first weekend, we got back to work here at GHS in World History. We reviewed the concepts and class policies that were introduced last week as well as discussing how neurons are formed and how we can change how their formed and connect when we learn new things. We also reviewed our communication strategies that we are going to use throughout the year. Finally, we watched a clip of Stand and Deliver to give us a great example of what a growth mindset looks like in a classroom as well as what we can accomplish in here if we attack the year with that growth mindset. I hope everyone has a great Monday night and I will see everyone back here tomorrow! We finished the week strong today in World History as we continued our goal to revolutionize our communication skills here at GHS. We reviewed our discussion skills as well as planning skills with Conclusion Support Notes. After that, we honed in on our use of subordinate clauses to transform the many simple sentences that we write into something more significant. These will be skills that we emphasize throughout the year in here as well as will have a huge impact on your ability to communicate in the future. I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday! Wow! We are almost through our first full week together here at GHS. I can honestly say this has been one of the smoothest and most enjoyable first weeks of school that I have had in my nine years of teaching. That would not be possible without all of the hard work that you have put in the last four days getting into our routines. Today in class we introduced our writing program for the year, The Writing Revolution. The goal of our program this year is to sharpen our communication skills to not only help us communicate more academically in history class but also help you succeed at your next stop after GHS. I hope that everyone has a great Thursday evening and I look forward to seeing everyone back at GHS tomorrow to finish the week strong! **Reminder** Signed Syllabus is due TOMORROW Conclusion Support Notes Activity will be checked TOMORROW |
